Somatics, LLC manufactures the Thymatron® System IV, an FDA-cleared Class II medical device for electroconvulsive therapy (ECT). The Thymatron is indicated for treatment of catatonia or severe major depressive episodes associated with major depressive or bipolar disorder in patients age 13 and older who are treatment-resistant or require rapid treatment response. The device incorporates proprietary computer methods for optimal stimulus delivery, seizure quality analysis, and seizure endpoint determination, with multiple redundant error-protection levels. Treatment data is automatically compiled in end-of-treatment reports. Somatics provides GPD (proprietary Windows-based software) free to all Thymatron users, enabling real-time trace monitoring, patient database management, treatment storage and review, and HL7-compliant electronic data interfacing to major EHR systems including Epic, Cerner, Rhapsody, Mirth, and Corepoint. The company has over 80 years of history in ECT device development, with the first ECT patient treated in 1938.
