SmolTap, Inc. manufactures the SMöLTAP, an innovative positioning cradle designed to simplify and improve infant lumbar punctures (spinal taps). The device uses gravity-assist positioning, pelvis-tipping mechanics, and secure infant stabilization to increase first-stick success rates, reduce failed procedures, and lower associated hospitalization risk. SMöLTAP addresses a critical clinical gap—approximately 38% of traditional infant LPs fail due to positioning difficulties—by enabling healthcare teams to focus on procedure accuracy and infant comfort rather than manual positioning. The solution improves clinical consistency, reduces staff workload and stress, and enhances patient and family experience across emergency departments, PICUs, NICUs, cancer centers, operating rooms, and interventional radiology settings. Winner of the 2025 SWPDC & AAP (SOATT) Pediatric Device Prize and deployed in major U.S. and Canadian pediatric hospitals including SickKids, Boston Children's, Mayo Clinic, and Philadelphia Children's Hospital.
