Shonaquip Social Enterprise

Uhambo USA is a nonprofit social enterprise that partners with Shonaquip Social Enterprise in Cape Town, South Africa to transform the lives of children with disabilities and their families. The organization removes barriers of access for persons with disabilities in remote and rural areas of Southern Africa through the design, local manufacture, and distribution of appropriate mobility devices and assistive equipment. Uhambo delivers a comprehensive suite of community-based services including capacity-building programs, training for wheelchair technicians and rehabilitation workers, user and caregiver education, disability sensitization initiatives, and skills training. The award-winning Ndinogona "I Can" Stimulation Program, implemented since 2013, empowers caregivers and educators to support inclusive learning and play for children with disabilities. All products are manufactured locally in South Africa, supporting sustainable community development while addressing the critical gap in wheelchair access—approximately 80% of the 65 million people worldwide who require wheelchairs live in low-income and developing regions. Uhambo USA is now expanding these proven interventions and device offerings to the United States market.
