About Presence Health
Presence Health was a prominent Catholic healthcare system based in Illinois, formed in November 2011 through the merger of Provena Health and Resurrection Health Care. It became one of the largest Catholic health systems in the state, serving communities across the Chicago metropolitan area and central Illinois. The organization was dedicated to providing compassionate, faith-based, and holistic care, with a focus on supporting individuals living in poverty and vulnerable populations.
At its peak, Presence Health operated numerous hospitals, outpatient facilities, long-term care services, and physician networks. Key facilities included Presence Saints Mary and Elizabeth Medical Center and Presence Saint Joseph Medical Center, which offered emergency care and specialized medical treatments. In 2018, Presence Health was acquired by Ascension and integrated into AMITA Health, enhancing access to care and population health management. Following the dissolution of AMITA Health in 2022, former Presence facilities were divided between Ascension Illinois and AdventHealth Great Lakes Region.
