About Penn State Health
Penn State Health is a multi-facility health system based in central Pennsylvania, established in 2014. It originated from a significant donation in 1963 that led to the creation of the Penn State College of Medicine and the Milton S. Hershey Medical Center, which opened in 1970.
The health system serves 15 counties and employs around 20,900 people. It includes five adult acute care hospitals, two specialty hospitals, one children's hospital, and 186 outpatient locations. Notable facilities are the Milton S. Hershey Medical Center, Penn State Health Hampden Medical Center, and Penn State Health Lancaster Medical Center.
Penn State Health is also involved in innovative medical research and clinical trials, focusing on areas such as artificial organs, advanced diagnostics, and cancer treatments. The College of Medicine is recognized for establishing dedicated Departments of Humanities and Family and Community Medicine, making it the first in the nation to do so.
