About Partners In Health

Partners In Health (PIH) is an international nonprofit public health organization based in Boston, Massachusetts. Founded in 1987, it focuses on delivering comprehensive healthcare to underserved populations in developing countries. PIH originated from a community clinic established in Haiti in 1983, initially targeting HIV/AIDS treatment. The organization has since expanded its mission to address various health issues, including tuberculosis and malaria, while also tackling social determinants of health such as access to clean water, food, and housing. Operating in 11 countries, including Haiti, Peru, and Rwanda, PIH builds hospitals, trains local health workers, and collaborates with governments to strengthen health systems. Notable initiatives include the Butaro Cancer Center of Excellence in Rwanda and the development of OpenMRS, an open-source electronic medical records system used globally. PIH emphasizes a holistic approach to healthcare, providing not only medical treatment but also social support and education to improve health outcomes in the communities it serves.
