About Palmetto Health

Palmetto Health was a significant healthcare system in South Carolina's Midlands, established in 1998 through the merger of Richland Memorial Hospital and Baptist Healthcare System. It served as a flagship provider with Richland Memorial Hospital as its administrative center, offering a range of services including trauma care, pediatrics, oncology, and cardiology. The organization emphasized patient-centered care, collaboration, and community service, and was a major employer in the region. In 2017, Palmetto Health merged with Greenville Health System, leading to the formation of Prisma Health in 2019, which is now the largest nonprofit health organization in South Carolina. Palmetto Health's facilities and staff continue to play a vital role within Prisma Health, which serves over 1.6 million patients annually. The system includes six acute care hospitals and a network of physician practices through the Palmetto Health-USC Medical Group, providing comprehensive medical services and specialized care.
