National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians
About National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians
The National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) is a nonprofit organization founded in 1970 to provide national certification for emergency medical services (EMS) personnel. Its mission is to ensure uniform standards for training, examination, and recertification, thereby enhancing public safety. NREMT was established following recommendations from a presidential committee and a significant report that identified the need for standardized EMS training.
NREMT offers certification and recertification for four levels of EMS personnel: Emergency Medical Responder (EMR), Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), Advanced Emergency Medical Technician (AEMT), and Paramedic (NRP). These programs include rigorous examinations developed by national experts to assess competency in knowledge and skills. NREMT has played a vital role in the evolution of EMS, contributing to national standards and supporting various organizations. With over 1 million certifications issued, NREMT serves EMS professionals across the country, including those in ambulance services, fire departments, and military programs.
