Institut Pasteur de Côte d'Ivoire (IPCI) is a national public establishment founded in 1972 to tackle major health epidemics in the country. It operates under the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research and became part of the International Network of Pasteur Institutes in 1978. IPCI focuses on scientific research aimed at improving human health, emphasizing ethical values. The institute has a strong workforce of nearly 250 staff members, including researchers and technicians, and operates from two locations: a site in Cocody and a larger campus in Adiopodoumé. IPCI's core missions include research, training, epidemiological surveillance, and diagnostic services. It specializes in studying transmissible diseases, providing medical analyses, and training health professionals. IPCI has been instrumental in managing outbreaks of diseases such as Ebola and COVID-19, and it hosts a biobank for ECOWAS countries. The institute also coordinates Côte d'Ivoire's health and research lab network, housing several WHO-recognized reference laboratories.
