HeartWare Inc

HeartWare International, Inc. was a medical device company focused on developing and manufacturing miniaturized implantable heart pumps, specifically ventricular assist devices (VADs) for advanced heart failure treatment. The company was incorporated in Delaware in 2008 and was headquartered in Framingham, Massachusetts, with additional operations in Miami Lakes, Florida, a development facility in Sydney, Australia, and a distribution center in Hannover, Germany. The primary product offered by HeartWare was the HeartWare Ventricular Assist System, which included a left ventricular assist device (LVAD) designed for patients at risk of death from refractory end-stage left ventricular heart failure. This system was suitable for both in-hospital and out-of-hospital use. HeartWare also developed the HVAD Pump Implant Kit and was working on next-generation products, including the MVAD and peripheral devices. In 2016, HeartWare was acquired by Medtronic for approximately $1.1 billion.
