About Erlanger

Erlanger is a nationally-acclaimed, multi-hospital health system based in Chattanooga, Tennessee. Founded in 1889, it began with a donation from Baron Frédéric Emile d'Erlanger to establish the region's first permanent hospital. Erlanger became a public benefit corporation in 1976 and operates under the oversight of the Chattanooga-Hamilton County Hospital Authority. Erlanger serves over 1,000,000 patients annually and is recognized for its comprehensive healthcare services. It features the region's first Level One adult and pediatric trauma centers, as well as pioneering cardiovascular services, including the first open heart surgery in the area. The system also includes Children's Hospital at Erlanger, the only dedicated children's hospital in the region, and operates one of the busiest emergency departments in the nation. As the 10th largest public healthcare system in the U.S., Erlanger is fully accredited by The Joint Commission and has seen its market share grow significantly in recent years.
