About Dignity Health

Dignity Health is a nonprofit healthcare organization based in San Francisco, California. Founded in 1986, it operates hospitals and ancillary care facilities across Arizona, California, and Nevada. Originally established as Catholic Healthcare West, the organization transitioned to Dignity Health in 2012 after restructuring its governance. In 2019, Dignity Health merged with Catholic Health Initiatives to create CommonSpirit Health, which is now the second-largest nonprofit hospital chain in the United States. At its peak as an independent entity, Dignity Health was the fifth-largest hospital system in the nation and the largest not-for-profit hospital provider in California. The organization has formed partnerships to enhance its healthcare services, including the establishment of the Dignity Health Arizona General Hospital in Laveen, Arizona. Dignity Health has also been the official healthcare provider for the San Francisco Giants and has collaborated with Blue Shield of California to serve a significant number of individuals in the California Public Employees Retirement System.
