Bayhealth is a not-for-profit healthcare system serving central and southern Delaware. It is the largest healthcare provider in the region, employing over 5,000 staff members, including more than 450 physicians and 200 advanced practice clinicians. Bayhealth's mission is to enhance community health, and it aims to deliver high-quality healthcare services.
The system includes multiple facilities, such as Bayhealth Hospital in Kent and Sussex, a freestanding emergency department in Smyrna, and various urgent care centers. Bayhealth Medical Group offers a wide range of medical services, including primary care, cardiology, surgery, and cancer treatment through its affiliation with the Penn Cancer Network. In Fiscal Year 2023, Bayhealth recorded over 107,000 emergency department visits and provided significant unreimbursed care to patients.
Bayhealth is affiliated with Penn Medicine for cardiac surgery and serves as a regional medical campus for Drexel University College of Medicine. The organization has received several quality recognitions, including Magnet Recognition and accreditation from the American College of Surgeons. It accepts most major health plans, Medicare, and Medicaid, facilitating patient access to care.
